The Legacy of Peel Engineering

Originally created in the early 1960s in the picturesque seaside town of Peel, on the Isle of Man, the Peel P50 became the world’s smallest production car and one of the most distinctive vehicles ever built.

Debuting at the Earl’s Court Motor Show in 1962, the P50 was designed around simplicity, efficiency, and character. With fewer than 50 original cars ever produced—and only around 30 known to exist today—the Peel P50 has become firmly established as a collector’s piece, with surviving examples regularly selling for well over $100,000 and held by museums and private collections worldwide.

The Peel story is not one of mass production or corporate scale, but of ingenuity and individuality—qualities that continue to define the car over half a century later.

Where It All Began

Seeing the Peel P50 as a child at the London Earl’s Court Motor Show in the 1990s left a lasting impression.

Seeing the car up close sparked a simple question: what if enthusiasts could still experience the Peel P50 as it was intended—not just as a museum piece, but as something to build, drive, and enjoy?

At the time, original cars were already becoming increasingly rare and financially out of reach. The idea was not to replicate exclusivity, but to preserve the experience.

From a Corner of a Workshop

P50CARS did not begin in a factory.

The earliest cars were built in a small, sublet section of an established classic car restoration workshop, specialising in Ford Zephyrs and Zodiacs. Working within that environment meant being surrounded by traditional bodywork, mechanical restoration, and careful hand craftsmanship—values that naturally carried into the earliest P50 builds.

As the cars developed, it became clear that continuing to build to that standard required more than borrowed space. A small dedicated workshop followed, allowing better tooling, greater consistency, and more of the work to be carried out in-house, without changing how the cars were made.

That progression laid the groundwork for everything that followed.

A Factory of Our Own

The earliest P50CARS builds were carried out in a compact factory space, where working closely with each car mattered more than speed. That environment shaped how the cars were made—carefully, deliberately, and by hand.

As the work developed, and particularly through the COVID period, it became clear that bringing more of the craft in-house, and giving it the time and attention it deserved, required a different setting.

In 2021, P50CARS moved into a larger, modern factory. Built in 2006, the space allows the entire build to take place under one roof, giving room for fabrication, finishing, and assembly without changing the way the cars are made.

Every P50CARS vehicle is still made by hand, one at a time, built with the same care, dedication, and attention to detail that shaped the earliest cars.

Hand-Built in Britain

Every P50CARS vehicle is individually hand built in our UK workshop.

Built for the Fans

Original Peel cars are now rare, fragile, and far removed from everyday use.

P50CARS exists so the experience can live on—not as static objects, but as faithful recreations intended to be built, driven, and enjoyed as they were always meant to be.

Hand-Built in Britain

Every P50CARS vehicle is individually hand built in our London workshop.

Around 90% of all components are crafted in-house, staying true to the original designs while incorporating modern engineering for reliability and ease of ownership.

With over 15 years of experience, each car reflects the same craftsmanship and care that defined the originals.

Enjoyed Worldwide

From the UK and Europe to North America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand P50CARS vehicles are owned and enjoyed across the globe.

Their authenticity, build quality, and heritage accuracy have made them highly sought after, with strong long-term value retention.

Today, that legacy continues not only through hand-built cars, but through digital preservation. As part of the Peel × Peel project, one of our Peel P50s was fully scanned and reverse engineered, ensuring its geometry is preserved for future generations.
