Smallest Car. Longest Journey.

Alex Orchin, long time P50 owner takes his little car on an epic journey.

Alex Orchin has always loved old cars, old machinery, and big adventures. He once tackled the London to Brighton bicycle race on a penny farthing — dressed in full Victorian attire — even after organisers told him he couldn’t do it. In 2017, Alex finally got the chance to buy his dream car: a P50CARS Peel P50, purchased from its original owner using inheritance money from his Gran. Rather than keeping it tucked away as a showpiece, Alex did what few would dare — he drove the tiny 50cc car every single day to and from work around his village in Sussex, it was his daily for years.

In October 2021, we invited Alex up to visit our new factory and show him around. Over a cup of tea, he shared a dream he’d always had: to drive the P50 from John O’Groats all the way to Land’s End — the longest journey in the UK, nearly 900 miles (1,450 km) from top to bottom. Just days later, he called back with an even bolder plan: he wanted to do it for charity, raising money for Children in Need, with only weeks to prepare. His P50 had been sitting in a barn, covered in mud and in rough shape, so we had just one week to fit a fresh engine, fully service it, and bring the little car back to life.

What followed was a true modern-day adventure. Over three weeks, Alex covered more than 1,400 miles (2,250 km) in a car with 6-inch wheels — visiting race tracks, castles, museums, and even riding a lift to drive the P50 around the top of Blackpool Tower. There were mishaps, freezing rain, lost doors, and unforgettable highs, including hitting 50 mph downhill with a tailwind. The UK and international media followed the journey as it unfolded, with coverage from BBC, ITV, and outlets around the world — all captivated by one man and the smallest car on Earth conquering Britain from end to end.

Alongside Alex every mile of the way was Joely, providing support in her trusty camper van — a rolling base that kept the adventure going through rain, long days on the road, and a few impromptu door repairs along the way. Together, they raised over $15,000 (£11,000) for charity in just three weeks, capturing hearts wherever they went and proving just what this tiny car is capable of — not just in miles covered, but in the joy, smiles, and excitement it brings to people of all ages. Alex later produced a short compilation film of the journey, but we highly recommend watching the full 19-episode series, filmed and uploaded as he travelled. With over three hours of footage, it’s an incredible real-time record of one of the greatest microcar adventures ever undertaken.
