P50 Royal Commission
This one-off P50 Cabriolet was commissioned by Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Thani as part of an exclusive series of presentation vehicles created as gifts for the Emir of Qatar. The commission initially called for a standard Capri blue P50; however, during the design phase we introduced a fully open Cabriolet concept. The proposal was immediately embraced, and both the original P50 and this singular Cabriolet were commissioned.
Transforming the Peel P50 into a true Cabriolet required far more than a stylistic change. Removing the roof fundamentally altered the car’s structure, demanding a complete re-engineering of the body. The original P50 shell was extensively reworked and reinforced to restore rigidity while preserving the car’s unmistakable proportions. The result is a fully engineered, open-top P50 developed exclusively for this single commission.
The exterior was finished to reflect both its destination and its status. Inspired by the Qatari flag, the bespoke livery combines a Daytona White upper with Qatari-maroon metallic detailing, separated by a hand-formed chromed brass dividing trim. Individually shaped and finished by hand, this detail gives the car a jewellery-like quality rarely seen at this scale.
Mechanically and internally, the Cabriolet was specified to match its bespoke nature. An uprated 110cc four-stroke engine and a discreetly integrated Bluetooth audio system ensure the car feels refined, usable, and appropriate for its role as a royal presentation piece.
This P50 Cabriolet was not developed as a production model, but as the first fully hand-built, open-top reimagining of the original Peel P50. Commissioned as a bespoke project, it now resides within the Royal Collection at Al Wajba Palace, standing as one of the most exclusive P50s ever created.
